COSLA, the organisation that represents Local Authorities in Scotland has issued a stark warning that Derek Mackays budget represents a real terms cut for Councils.
Cllr Struan Mackie presented the case for funding local government properly after the COSLA briefing to members. "The SNP Government have had in excess of £1billion coming from Westminster to Scotland as part of Phillip Hammonds budget. Despite this increase, we see cuts to Councils delivering vital frontline services." "We all expect the Greens to find common ground with the SNP and find some sort of deal, which may allow this budget to pass... but the red line must be Council funding." "Derek Mackay and the SNP Government at Hollyrood must fund Councils properly or feel the very real anger from local communities who's services will continue to get cut."
