Visiting at the request of the Prime Minister, Cllr Mackie attended the Scottish Conservative reception with colleagues from across Highland.
I was delighted to receive an invitation from the Prime Minister to attend the Scottish Conservative reception at Downing Street last night.
It was an invaluable opportunity to put forward my constituents thoughts and concerns to the highest office in the land and I was privileged to share that opportunity with colleagues from across Scotland including Councillor Isabelle Mackenzie, Councillor Callum Smith, Edward Mountain MSP and our Association Chairman Anne Anderson.
A major focus of the discussion was Brexit and ensuring that we leave the European Union on terms that will work for Britain.
In a statement to local press after the reception, Cllr Mackie said "I will continue to support the UK Government in the pursuit of an exit that honours the result of the referendum but will also give us the best possible platform to enter our new-era post of post European Union membership."
"We have seen in the Highland Council how Brexit is seen as an opportune issue to make overy political gain, the same is happening across the political landscape. Whether it be the so called 'People's Vote' trampling on the democratic will of the people or the SNP actively seeking the most destructive Brexit possible to help achieve their goal of ending the Union."
ENDS.
